The 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC was supposed to split the gap between the standard Dark Horse and the ultra-rare Mustang GTD with the SC getting a supercharger to help boost performance.

The company has still not released official performance estimates for the SC, but an ill-timed leak of the pricing at the dealer level forced Ford to move quickly, confirming the base SC will start at $103,490 which will move the SC into territory normally occupied by the likes of Porsche and BMW.

Base SC will be rare sight

This base price serves as the proverbial middle ground for the high performance Mustang family but look for these base models to be rare sights in dealerships. Many Dark Horse SC buyers will most likely take a trip to the options sheet and a well equipped Dark Horse SC can easily surpass $170,000 (and that’s before any dealer markups.)

At first glance, this might seem alot more than the old 2022 Shelby GT500 which had a starting price of just over $79,000. But Dark Horse SC buyers are getting more car for the money despite the two sharing the same 5.2 liter supercharged V8, the same seven-speed dual clutch automatic, and the same magnetic dampening system. It’s mostly in the finer details with the Dark Horse SC benefiting from enhancements and tech which were simply not available on the GT500.

This includes some of the things found in the $36,500 Track Pack which includes gear from the Mustang GT4 and even chucks the rear seats for the sake of shaving precious weight.

Still a bargain

When compared to some of its rivals, the Mustang Dark Horse SC is still the proverbial bargain buy in the segment. Barring any outside forces manipulating the price tag, the only way to match some of the Dark Horse SC’s projected performance numbers is to get the Porsche 911 Carrera S a two-door that starts at $156,000.

We look forward to hearing more about the Dark Horse SC’s performance numbers and while we don;t expect it to surpass the GTD’s 815 hp, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to see the engine make 795 or even 800 hp even considering the GT500’s engine made 760 horsepower in its most potent form.
