The Mini Countryman has been around for a while, and with the relatively light suite of updates it got in recent years, we don’t blame you if you forgot about the brand’s most rugged crossover.

MINI is preparing to take the Countryman off the beaten path with the new Untamed Edition, which is all about allowing the Countryman to take on the uncharted trails that were long off-limits to its lesser stablemates.

The changes lie under the skin

With the main styling elements of the Countryman Untamed Edition being carried over unchanged for the most part, the bulk of the changes are actually found underneath its boxy bodywork. The Untamed Edition gets a 15.0 mm suspension lift, with the wheel and tire combination increasing the clearance slightly to 19.0 mm depending on powertrain.

Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires are standard, along with all-wheel drive. MINI also recalibrated select portions of the Countryman, including the ABS, to help it work better with the lifted suspension and the tires. The changes that do exist on the exterior are mainly aesthetic, with the Untamed Edition getting new front inserts, reworked front and rear underbody protection, a tweaked rear diffuser, and Untamed-exclusive logos and graphics.

An interior ready for any occasion

Slip inside the Countryman Untamed Edition, and you will be greeted with Vescin Nightshade Blue sport seats that get perforated upholstery and knitted sections around the shoulders and headrests. MINI says the pattern here is inspired by various rock formations. Knitted accents also adorn the dashboard and door panels, with these elements being bathed in a color called Millennial Melange.

The center console gets reworked and gets elastic straps that are inspired by the ones you might find on backpacks and other outdoor gear. While the Untamed Edition is far from a Jeep Wrangler when it comes to all-out function, the interior changes here should be enough to please most adventure seekers.

It’s coming to the U.S.

The Mini Countryman Untamed Edition will be coming to the U.S., and it will do so using its existing gas and EV powertrains. Trim level will play a role here, with the gasoline version being based on the Countryman S ALL4 while the EV version shares its roots with the SE ALL4.

MINI is also working with various upfitters to provide a wide range of adventure-ready accessories, including a roof-mounted tent and even folding tables and camping chairs. In the U.S., a gas-powered Untamed Edition will start at $45,520 with the $1,350 destination charge included. MINI hasn’t released pricing information for the EV version, but expect it to command a noticeable premium in that regard.
