The fuel-sipping Toyota Corolla is preparing to turn 60 in 2027, with the compact not only rewriting the fuel economy and reliability game when it first landed in the United States 60 years ago, but also becoming one of the company’s strongest-selling vehicles in the process.

Toyota is giving it a stylish U.S. only birthday present in the form of the 2027 60th Anniversary Edition.

Styling changes define this birthday special

At first glance, you might not think much has changed, with the Corolla’s aging looks continuing to take center stage. However, look closer, and you’ll find Toyota tweaked the finer details to help make these models stand out. The model gets 18-inch machined black alloy wheels along with custom badging, while Ice Cap and Supersonic Red will be the two exterior colors available.

The interior gets black and red sport seats, 60th anniversary badging on the door sills, and special floor mats. A 10.5-inch infotainment screen is also standard, and all 60th anniversary models will get the Corolla Hybrid’s 1.8-liter four-cylinder. It makes 138 horsepower, and while it’s far from being sporty, the engine is paired with an electric motor to help boost fuel mileage when compared to a standard Corolla model.

When can I buy one?

Toyota revealed it will be capping production at 2,500 units, with all of them being sedans (sorry, hatchback fans.) The first 60th Anniversary models are expected to reach showrooms this fall, but Toyota chose not to reveal pricing for the new model at the time of its unveiling. However, look for these models to have a slight premium over a standard SE Hybrid model.

The anniversary special also highlights the light touch the company has applied to the Corolla in recent years as it potentially prepares the Corolla for a new revamped model that intends to inject more personality and technology into the iconic nameplate to win over a new generation of younger buyers.
