Land Rover has always been a brand that has been known for sticking with traditional luxury SUVs with a strong focus on off-roading. While the brand has occasionally made urban-focused model like the Evoque and the Velar, it never strayed too far away from its roots.

This long-running mantra is apparently about to change with Land Rover unveiling the GT concept which will be the fifth member of its model lineup when it eventually makes its way into production.

Range Rover GT writes new chapter

For now, our best view is obscured by digital themed camoflague that’s infused with earthly tones, but we can at least see the core shape and it’s apparent that the GT will be more car-like than ever before. It certainly has a faint resemblance to the Evoque but the swooping profile and the sloping roofline also give it a car-like profile.

The Range Rover GT is built on JLR’s EMA platform, but the marketing so far suggests JLR has learned some lessons from the controversial Jaguar Type 01 and has perhaps decided to go in a more conventional route when it comes to rolling out this concept.

Radical interior pitches buttons

Slip inside the Range Rover GT and you’ll find a cabin that’s a noticeable departure from current Land Rover and Range Rover traditions. Those cabins always had a strong presence of analog buttons to balance out the tech, but here, the button count has diminished to help create a cleaner look.

The concept shown has a 2+2 layout but a more practical bench is available for those who need the extra space. The rear seats also boast a good amount of rear legroom, and the front seats themselves are seperated by a large center console with a floating element in the upper half.

The large touchscreen is the hub of the action, and while some of the more essential controls are unfortunately bundled into it, Land Rover has kept some analog controls including physical stalks on the steering wheel. A large glass panel also helps let plenty of light in on sunny days.

When will we see it?

Land Rover didn’t share further details for now, but the company is expected to reveal more about it over the next few months. Land Rover says the Range Rover GT’s cabin was designed to“create a sanctuary of calm” inside the “quietest Range Rover ever.” We look forward to hearing how they managed to achieve that and whether any novel tech was involved.

Unlike Jaguar which betted the proverbial farm on EVs, Land Rover is the figurative workhorse of JLR, and as a result, the GT will have a hybrid companion that will be sold alongside it. That should please anxious dealerships who have been relying on the LR side of the business to carry them through a time where no new Jaguar models are currently available, the company is going through rough waters, and EV demand is slumping.
