With the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado recently launched, GMC has decided to follow suit with its updated full-size pickup, the 2027 GMC Sierra. The Sierra is attempting to bring more polish to GMC’s bread and butter model and comes with a number of changes and updates.
Sierra follows the same core script

Like the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado, the Sierra has gone under the knife with many of the updates mirroring those that we saw in the Chevy. However, the GMC’s exterior refresh shares some of its DNA with the Sierra EV and this heritage actually allows the Sierra to move a step ahead of the Silverado in this particular regard. The front grille is more vertically styled than before and the headlights are also tweaked. GMC says the front ends of each trim will have different styling elements in an ongoing attempt to give each trim its own unique identity.

The rest of the exterior updates are an evolution verus an outright reboot, but it’s pretty obvious GMC managed to dial into the styling side of things better than Chevy, and it shows when you look at some of the finer details of the truck.
More screens and comfort for Sierra buyers

Slip inside and you’ll find that the Silverado script also plays out in some of the core details. The Sierra is now available with up to three screens with a large 16.5-inch infotainment screen serving as the star of the show. Unlike Chevy’s infotainment system, the Sierra’s has the ability to articulate forward in certain trim levels which reveals a small storage nook.
The front passenger gets an 11.5-inch display and it can be tweaked to either be a small slim screen or a full-size display. To help keep the driver from being distracted by anything cool the passenger might be watching, the passenger screen gets a privacy blocker and an analog cover can actually hide a portion of it away from view. The all-new MultiPro center console allows buyers to use it as a small work station if needed.

A minor update but one that will be appreciated by a growing pool of older buyers is the widened seat bottoms which is an attempt at improving long distance comfort while also indirectly acknowledging the fact more older buyers are buying these rigs. GMC will also be simplifying the trim ladder at launch and will sell the 2027 Sierra in four flavors; Pro, Elevation, AT4, and Denali.
Top Sierra trims come loaded
While GMC was willing to share the full trim lineup, the brand only chose to reveal details for its top two rigs, the AT4X and the Denali Ultimate. That means the volume focused Pro and Elevation models get to wait another day to have their time in the sun, but the AT4X and the Denali are taking two different approaches to pleasing customers.
If you’re a style conscious buyer who loves showing off, the Denali Ultimate is for you. These models are the ones that will have the most screens with the truck having 60-inches of combined screen related real estate. The Denali Ultimate will also get the new 6.6 liter V8 which is a welcome upgrade over the outgoing 6.2 liter. The interior gets forged wood accents and a 16-speaker Bose Premium Series Audio System with four of thee speakers being mounted in the headrests.

For the adventure crowd, the AT4X swaps out some of the Denali Ultimate’s bling for funcional add-ons. A beefy set of 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires are standard with the truck also getting new Multimatic sourced jounce dampers, and front and rear e-locking differentials. A 2.9-inch suspension lift helps keep the truck out of trouble, and a new hood and front end further assert its rugged personality. The interior gets unique trim inserts and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. GMC even confirmed a new version of the AEV variant is coming but stopped short of saying when that one will appear in showrooms.
When can I buy one?
Like their counterparts at Chevrolet, GMC chose to leave pricing out of its launch announcement, but revealed it will be releasing that data and other lingering items later this year. Look for the pricing side to go up but not by too much once the final pricing ladders are released.
