Chevrolet knew that its Silverado pickup was going to need some major updates to respond to some of the recent moves Ford and Ram have made when it came to updating their trucks.
The 2027 SIlverado attempts to address many of these concerns while also trying to help the model start fresh when it comes to performance but is it enough to help the SIlverado start fresh?
A new look comes with two new V8s

Chevy designers chose to maintain a high level of familiarity in the redesign and while the new look is not as adventurous as some would have wanted, the truck still gets new LED headlights, tailights, larger wheel openings, and a tweaked front fascia.
The interior gets more noticeable and welcome changes including a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 16.4-inch infotainment screen. Select trim levels will also get a small passenger mounted screen which would be the first time the Silverado will get this relatively new feature.

Four engines will be coming with the 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and the 3.0-liter Duramax V6 continuing to be offered. However, the 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter Ecotec3 engines will be axed with GM debuting a new 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter V8 in the 2027 model. GM didn’t release any formal horsepower numbers for both engines but the company did say the truck will have “the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine,” indicating the 6.6-liter could outshine Ford and Ram’s V8s in outright muscle.
Seven flavors of choice

Chevrolet also simplifed the truck’s trim ladder for 2027 and buyers will be able to choose from seven different trim levels. Four of them are focused on off-roading and can be seen below.
- Custom Trail Boss
- Trail Boss
- ZR2
- ZR2 Bison
The Custom Trail Boss continues to be the gateway into the Silverado’s rugged truck lineup. It comes with a 2.0-inch suspension lift and 34-inch tires. The Trail Boss builds off the Custom by adding 34-inch tires, unique exterior styling, Torch Red-trimmed seatbelts, and fabric seat inserts with a custom perforation pattern.

Meanwhile, the ZR2 and the ZR2 Bison continue to be the pinnacle models and while they still make less power than the Ram TRX and the Ford Raptor, these trucks get 35-inch tires, front and rear e-lockers, Multimatic DSSV dampers and forged carbon fiber accents in the interior with this ruck being the first time GM has used forged carbon fiber in a production vehicle.

The rest of the trim ladder is very familiar to those stepping out of a 2026 model with the exception being the axed LT which is now called “Silverado.” The High Country continues to be the range-topping model with these models getting 22-inch wheels, real wood trim, optional suede interior trim, and Chevy’s multi-flex center console. Rounding out the family are the Work Truck, Custom, and Custom Trail Boss models. They join the “Silverado” trim in offering a standard bench seat which can be swapped out for front buckets while 4WD versions get the Z71 treatment which gives it skidplates, hill desecent control, and a rugged off-road suspension.
When can I buy one?
Chevrolet revealed plenty of information but the main element that’s missing is pricing. However, look for the pricing ladder to not change too much especially since the 2027 model will retain the existing cab and bed configurations you see in the 2026 one.

We also get to wait to hear more about engine specs, but the new 6.6 liter already sounds promising since it would also allow Chevy to move on from the 6.2 liter V8 which has seen its reputation be dragged through the mud by recalls for failing crankshafts and lifter and valve train issues. These issues spawned NHTSA probes and Chevy is hoping the 6.6 liter will be able to write a new chapter for itself in the minds of consumers.
