More power in any form is always goodand thankfully Mercedes-Benz has not strayed away form htis time honored formula even when high gas prices and other external forces are putting the squeeze on performance.
This time around, the company’s Mercedes-AMG performance division has chosen to inject more vigor into its biggest SUVs the GLS and GLE for 2027 with more power, tech, and attitude all trying to win over a new generation of buyers.
V8s continue to be a pillar

It wasn’t too long ago that the demise of the V8 at AMG was seemingly in motion thanks in part to a complex PHEV four-cylinder turbo engine that was slowly making its way into the AMG lineup. AMG has since moved away from this questionable choice and has re-embraced the V8. the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 is still a beast but upgraded turbos and intakes (as well as a flat-plane crankshaft) help it produce 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.

The engine also gets a 48-volt hybrid system and while the SUVs are not green focused hybrids, AMG says the electric motor will help improve off the line acceleration and responsiveness with the GLE doing the sprint to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. The heavier GLS will do the same deed in 3.8 seconds. Both are also electronically limited to 174 mph but they go beyond being mere straightline missiles with the duo getting an AMG Ride Control+ air suspension that’s now paired with an active roll stabilization feature that’s bundled into the AMG Active Ride Control System. All-wheel drive is standard and while the bulk of these SUVs will not go beyond a stylish boulevard on the weekends, AMG says they are track capable if the desire arises.
A sharper attitude is hiding in sheep’s clothing

At first glance, both the GLE and GLS 63 appear to go off in a more conservative direction with the core shape and basic proportions carrying over largely unchanged. However, the AMG treatment means a new AMG exclusive front grille, larger front air intakes, and revised lighting elements. Quad exhaust tips and a tweaked diffuser are at the rear, and the GLS gets spiffy 10-spoke wheels.
Slip inside, and you’ll find that the cabin continues to be a tech heavy presentation with plenty of screens and high end materials. The only real major change of note is the updated steering wheel which now gets drive mode controls and other software updates to help improve customization and performance. An expanded MANUFAKTUR program brings even more extras to the party and can make both SUVs into pretty bespoke creations when certain colors and trims are paired together.
How Much?

With all of the power and luxury the 2027 GLE 63 S and GLS 63 bring to the table, we’re not shocked to see Benz has held back pricing information for the duo. But look for the pricing to not stray too far away from the current generation models with those starting well over $120,000.
