Toyota is no stranger to teasing surprises and the Japanese Auto Giant took to social media to subtlety tease a new model that’s coming to the U.S. But the lingering mystery of what it exactly is will definitely leave enthusiasts wanting more answers.

Could it be a new compact pickup?

Toyota’s teaser could hint at a new pickup

The lone teaser image Toyota released doesn’t do much to reveal any major details. An odd lightbar is the prominent element here and the mystery vehicle has a low squat profile. While the angle and the shadows don’t help matters, this model could perhaps be teasing a new compact pickup.

Customers have been wanting Toyota to produce a compact model below the Tacoma for several years now especially as the once compact Tacoma has grown in size over the past few decades. if this is a pickup, it would give Toyota a rival to compete against the Ford Maverick which ha sproven to be a strong player in this slice of the pickup market. It could also be yet another SUV but we suspect Toyota doesn’t want to add more glut to its SUV lineup which would compete internally with the new CH-R.

ICE power to motivate new addition

A smaller pickup would give the Tacoma some back up in showrooms

With Toyota choosing to keep other key details to itself, we get to guess what other things Toyota has in store including the powertrain. With EV sales as a whole slipping and the company itself saying hybrids will continue to be its main priority, chances are good this new model will have an ICE power plant with a hybrid system potentially being added to boost fuel economy while also following a recent trend within Toyota towards making hybrid engines the default powertrain choice in certain models.

The core look also has a resemblance to the EPU concept from 2023 but as they say, time will tell and we have to wait until more information emerges to get a better sense of what Toyota is up to with this concept.
