When you ask someone what is the most iconic Jeep model the brand has? Chances are good that they will say the Jeep Wrangler, an understandable history considering its place in Jeep lore. However, the Wrangler has a running buddy, and that’s the Grand Cherokee.

The Grand Cherokee appeals to the on-road consumer but it still has the chops to tackle trails when asked to do so. Jeep knows this has made it a profitable cash cow as a result, and it has unveiled the newly updated 2026 Grand Cherokee.

Light changes outside hide major changes under the hood

2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee grille is newly updated and the headlights are also tweaked.

Jeep designers chose a balanced gameplan when it came to updating the exterior styling with the front fascia getting a streamlined version of the seven slot front grille with the piece being flanked by new headlights. The lighting is more evolutionary than revolutionary but that’s ok since it helps the Jeep retain a high degree of familiarity. The rest of the exterior changes are light with the rear bumper getting updated, new exterior trim pieces and several new colors.

@Jeep is preparing major updates to the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee. A new front end and a new four-cylinder are some of the major changes but a bigger infotainment screen and a slimmed down trim ladder are part of a broader plan to boost sales and make choosing easier for customers. However, the main changes are found under the hood. While the aging and seemingly immortal 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 is carried over with its existing 293 hp intact, certain trims will get a new 2.0-liter turbocharged Hurricane four-cylinder that comes bundled with Stellantis’s Turbulent Jet Ignition technology. The setup produces 324 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque and even promises 504 miles of driving range before it needs a fill up. The 4xe PHEV will continue to be the most efficient member of the family and its powertrain is also carried over for the new model year.

Familiar interior hides new tech

A new smaller four-cylinder is making its debut on certain trims but a bigger infotainment screen ups the tech game.

The interior is also updated but it retains the outgoing model’s familiar look. A larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen replaces the strange dual-screen alyout and the switchgear and the cenetr console have also been updated.

Jeep even simplified the GC’s bloated family tree and while there is still an insane array of packages to choose from, the trim ladder is now down to Laredo, Limited, and Summit. The 4xe follows suit but swaps out the Laredo trim for Limited, Summit, and Trailhawk. Th SUV will also continue to be offered in both its standard and extended wheelbase “L” configurations.

2026 Jeep® Grand Cherokee updated interior

Look for the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee to make its way to dealerships later this year. Pricing and other lingering details will be released closer to its official launch. In the meantime, buyers will also be able to soon get their hands on the GC’s smaller brandmate the Cherokee.
