Jeep had grand ambitions when it brought back the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer nameplates with the full-size SUV giving the iconic off-road brand a full-size luxury laden flagship once again after the doomed to fail Commander in the 2000s, and the iconic Wagoneers.

Unfortunately, the revived Wagoneer has been a flop and it not only forced Jeep to abandon its bold plan to sell them like a distinctively different model within showrooms, but also scrap the base Wagoneer family outright. The Grand Wagoneer is still being kept though, and Jeep is making some major revisions to try and right the sales ship.

Trimmed family tree makes Grand Wagoneer much cheaper

I addition to Jeep using some gardening shears on the model lineup, the removal of the Wagoneer has also caused the Grand Wagoneer to now be much cheaper than before. Unlike the old model which started a $87,040, the 2026 base 4×2 now has a starting price of $64,740. Jeep also dropped the odd Series I, II and III designations in favor of some familiar trim levels that are included in the breakdown below.

Performance for the 2026 Grand Wagoneer is a mixture of old and new for the most part with the base engine continuing to be the 3,0-liter twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six which makes 420 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque. However, the Grand Wagoneer is also getting a new REEV variant that will make 647 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque. This setup is borrowed from the range-extended Ram 1500 and Jeep says the SUV can make the sprint to 60 mph in the low five second range.

Like the Ram, a 3.6-liter V6 serves as the figurative heart of the operation with the engine being mated to a 92 kWh battery pack and a 120 kWh generator with the setup giving the GW 500 miles of combined range.

A new look for the modern age

In addition to the trim and performance changes, Jeep also made some revisions to the rest of the design. The 2026 Grand Wagoneer continues to look like a rolling brick but the front fascia now gets a new light-up grille that helps it be more in line with the all-electric Wagoneer S. The Wagoneer script is also scrapped with the Jeep name making its return.

New colors, trims and wheel designs are also available but chrome has been sent to the showers for the new model year. The interior and its penthouse-esque luxuries are carried over largely unchanged but a larger heads-up display and a new color choice make their respective debuts for 2026.

It will be interesting to see if these updates will help the model recover from its sales tailspin but the fact that Jeep and Stellantis are making the first steps towards correcting these mistakes is an early positive sign of change and we look forward to seeing how things play out. That includes the return of the smaller Cherokee to the ranks.
