Cadillac is helping to lead GM into electrification. But while the luxury brand already sells several EVs, it’s still not ready to embrace an all-electric strategy with the brand still selling the CT5, CT4 and the XT5 (The XT4 will be leaving after 2025.)

The XT5 is the oldest utility currently available at Cadillac and its age is quite noticeable when viewed alongside the newer products sold in its showrooms. However, a refresh is coming and the XT5 could potentially become a bigger player for Cadillac moving forward.

XT5 will help add newfound vigor to Spring Hill facility

Cadillac’s move to refresh the XT5 was mentioned in a memo that was obtained by the Detroit Free Press and while the paper chose to keep its findings behind a subscriber paywall, the memo in question allegedly states the model will “continue as a next-generation gas vehicle beyond 2026.” The company later confirmed the validity of the report to the publication. The refreshed XT5 will be produced at GM’s Spring Hill Assembly plant which was once the home for the defunct Saturn brand.

As mentioned, the XT5 is currently the oldest model in the lineup with its last refresh happening all the way back in 2020. Cadillac hasn’t given it much attention in the nearly five years since but despite this light handed approach, sales for the crossover jumped 4.7 percent with Cadillac selling 12,727 of them last year. This puts it as the brand’s second best selling model with only the ICE-powered Escalade being ahead of it in that figure.

Cadillac’s move sign that the brand is willing to adapt

Cadillac is currently in the process of launching several new electric models but like any good gambler, the brand is also keeping a few trump cards up its sleeve and one of them is still keeping a small pool of gasoline powered models in its inventory to help get sales from buyers who might not be ready to make the switch to an electric vehicle.

It’s not known what Cadillac has planned for the XT5’s refresh but with the exterior styling being far past its expiration date, look for designers to give that side of the XT5 some newfound love with the front and rear ends being touched up. The interior would also get an overhaul to help it fall more in line with newer members of the lineup.

The XT5 would also be one of two gasoline powered SUVs left in the lineup with the XT4 and the XT6 both being sacrificed to make room for the new electric models Cadillac is planning to release.
