Genesis boldly leaped into the electrified vehicle market a few years ago with the GV60 providing a futuristic glimpse into a future where electrification would play a big role in Genesis’s broader plans. However, changing market conditions and beefed-up tariffs have forced the upstart luxury brand to follow the lead of others and put a renewed focus on hybrids.
This shift has also resulted in a quiet death with the brand confirming that it has canceled the G80 Electrified sedan for the 2025 model year.
G80’s value power has dried up

The G80 Electrified was a solid all-electric vehicle and it also showed Genesis’s approach to how it would style the bulk of its EVs with the G80 retaining alot of the core traits that made the ICE powered model a handsome four-door in showrooms with the only differences being a tweaked front bumper and grille panel with the exhaust system also being sliced out of the body. This familiarity was supposed to make prospective buyers more comfortable about switching and also save on development costs with the GV70 Electrified following the same blueprint.
However, unlike the GV70, the G80 Electrified was stuck competing in a segment where SUV sales have rapidly eclipsed four-door sales with Genesis selling only 4,155 examples of the ICE-powered model so far this year. As such, it’s no surprise to hear that the EV only made up a very small portion of that total.

That’s too bad since the EV made 365 hp and its 87.2 kWh battery allowed it to get 282 miles of range on a single charge. Tariffs have also eroded the EV’s value power since it would have had to potentially absorb a hefty price increase if proposed 15% tariffs on South Korea are implemented by President Trump. A next-generation is still coming but only for international markets including South Korea.
Get them while you can

Time may have run out for the G80 Electrified in the U.S. but buyers looking to secure one for themselves will be pleased to hear that some dealerships still have the model in stock but you will have to do some searching around since only a few of these stores have inventory (countless others only have the gas-powered model.
But put in the legwork and you’ll be rewarded with a sedan that has a pleasant ride and enough luxury to make the rigors of the daily commute melt away.
