Ram is in the middle of reshaping its image after the company saw sales crater as it ditched the iconic Hemi V8 for the Hurricane inline-six engine. The brand brought the V8 back to the standard Ram 1500 but the company has now moved things up a notch with Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa seemingly confirming the return of the TRX during the company’s Q2 financial call.
TRX will bring newfound bite to Ram lineup

While the bulk of the company’s call focused on the numbers and financial data, this quote caught our attention when Filosa said “The V-8 engine on versions, such as the Ram 1500 TRX, will deliver to us additional volumes but also accredited margins per unit,” Filosa told shareholders, with the folks at Mopar Insiders seemingly predicting the return of the truck earlier this spring.
Filosa didn’t reveal any further details about the revived truck but if we were to use the standard Ram 1500 as a form of guide, it would appear the truck would be powered by the familiar 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat Hemi V8 engine but horsepower could change considering the Ford F-150 Raptor R makes 720 hp from its own supercharged V8.

The TRX was the halo model in Ram’s lineup and the supertruck generated plenty of buzz when it initially made its debut a few years ago. After the TRX left, it was replaced by the RHO but its smaller inline-six engine soured the moods of loyalists and its sales have been a far cry from what the TRX used to generate during its time in production.
TRX could provide crucial backbone for the revival of SRT
The return of the TRX would also coincide with plans to bring back the SRT sub-brand. Stellantis confirmed in the past that SRT would focus on models from Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Chrysler and putting the TRX firmly under the SRT umbrella would help give the revival some extra credibility while also cementing its role beyond souping up Dodge and Jeep models.

It will also be interesting to see if Ram would follow Ford’s lead and expand the TRX moniker to other products in the future. Stellantis promised 25 different product announcements within the next 18 months, and with separate rumors suggesting Ram is developing a smaller mid-size pickup to be sold under the Ram 1500, using the TRX nameplate would help expand consumer reach while also allowing Ram to use the reputation of the existing moniker to lure in a larger pool of customers.
