It’s no secret that the 2025 Nissan Armada is a make it or break it model for the struggling Japanese auto giant. The 2025 model brought renewed styling, better technology, and smaller engine to the party in a bid to boost fuel economy.

However, Nissan also apparently thought that the SUV needed more power too, and has unveiled the all-new 2026 Armada Nismo which attempts to once again push the Armada into the same territory as some of the performance SUVs in its segment.

Armada Nismo is an unexpected gambit

With all of the other crazy things that have taken place in 2025, we’ll admit we did not have a Nismo version of the Armada in our figurative bingo card. The Armada Nismo will be very easy to spot thanks to its reworked styling with the front and rear ends being reworked while new side skirts give it a ground-hugging effect. A massive set of 22-inch wheels are also part of the package, and the Nismo will get a model exclusive two-tone Stealth Grey color scheme.

A tweaked tailgate and roof spoiler are part of the package too and the SUV gets adorned with bold red colored accents. This is not the first time a Nismo version has appeared on the SUV. The last generation of its international market cousin, the Patrol, received a similar treatment. However, it is the first time the Nismo package has made its way to U.S. shores.

Sporty interior retains Armada’s functionality

Slip inside the Armada Nismo and you’ll find that some of the core upgrades have also made their way into the SUV with all models getting two-toned black/red quilted leather seats with adjustable bolsters to help keep occupants in place during spirited driving. Red accents are also found on the dashboard and the steering wheel to maximize the sporty atmosphere. At the end of the day, this is still a Nissan Armada and the SUV still has three rows of seats with the second row getting their own set of captain’s chairs with the third row continuing to be a place best meant for children and pieces of cargo. Technology is also mostly carried over from its lesser cousin including the infotainment system which gets Google’s Built-In software.

More power and a fancy pair of dance shoes

Performance for the Armada Nismo continues to come from a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that now makes 460 horsepower which is a gain of 35 horses. While this might not seem like much, Nissan says the bulk of the increase is due to revised engine programming, a new exhaust system, and what it calls “careful fine-tuning of valve clearances.” We suppose that last change is par for the course since the engine does have some connections to the V6 that once powered the GT-R so some pages from its playbook could have been applied to tuning that particular component.

A nine-speed automatic continues to be the standard transmission choice and all-wheel drive is standard too. the Nismo also gets a new electronic steering rack and a revised adaptive air suspension system for improved high-speed handling. The company also revealed the 8,500 lb towing limit hasn’t been touched meaning the Armada could be the perfect track day companion alongside the Z Nismo being towed behind it.

When can I buy one?

If all of this sounds appealing and you want a Armada Nismo for your fleet, you get to wait awhile since Nissan didn’t release pricing for the model. Fuel economy was not announced either but look for that item to possibly be slightly less than a standard Armada.

The 2026 Nissan Armada Nismo will go on sale this fall.
