The Ford F-150 Raptor may be the current big dog in town when it comes to Ford-badged performance pickups (The recently unveiled F-150 Lobo is more style than substance) but it can be easy to forget that the streets were once ruled by the F-150 SVT Lightning.

The second generation model is the one that often gets the most attenton thanks to its supercharged 5.4-liter V8. However, the first generation Lightning often flies under the radar, and an exceptionally minty fresh example up for auction on Bring A Trailer could get money usually seen in supercars after the dust settles.

Low miles and alot of swagger

Unlike other 1993 SVT Lightnings, this one only has 150 miles on the odometer and it also looks like it just rolled off the factory too. The 1993 SVT Lightning was one of the first vehicles to come from Ford’s then-new Special Vehicles Team with the now defunct divsion being responsible for other creations including the SVT Focus as well as the SVT Cobra Mustang.

In the case of this truck, SVT modified the suspension, engine, brakes, and the frame to help it handle and perform better in street driving. The model also got its start as a two-door and SVT reworked the exterior and removed all the chrome trim and even swapped out the rear bumper for a new tubular shaped one.

Performance came from a naturally aspirated 5.8-liter V8 with the truck making 240 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. These figures may seem noticeably weak-kneed by today’s standards but back in the early 1990s that was a decent amount of power and vehicles that broke the 300 or even the 400 hp barrier were few and far between.

The auction listing states that the truck is largely original but the 32-year old factory tires were recently thrown out with the truck rolling on a newer set of rubber. The rear was also refinished but we’re glad to see this rig still has plenty of early 1990s swagger.

Auction will be a glimpse into the market for 1990s vehicles

This particular listing would provide a glimpse into the market value for a first generation SVT Lightning with the beefed-up second-gen models often getting the bulk of bidding attention due to their supercharged engines. However, demand for 1990s era vehicles has been growing among younger enthusiasts and once overlooked models like this one are slowly getting more attention.

The listing has over 330 images and the truck even received a special dry ice cleaning for the undercarriage prior to the auction. The engine also got detailed but the hot humid Floridian air has obviously taken a toll with the engine bay having a good amount of corrosion. At the moment, the truck currently has a bid of $66,000 and there’s still five days remaining in the auction. As such, it will be interesting to see what kind of collector this will appeal to but whoever wins will have to invest a good amount of money to fix other issues the truck might have including the aforementioned corrosion. If they do, they will be rewarded with a unique conversation starter and a nice rig for occasional driving.
