Chevrolet promised that it was going to bring back the Bolt EV. The Bolt was Chevy’s entry-level EV and despite using older technology that actually predated GM’s Ultium platform, the car was a strong seller with the EU giving Chevy a strong contender in the compact CUV segment.

Chevrolet is now ready to reveal what they have up their sleeve with the brand revealing some new teaser images of the 2027 Bolt as it prepares to bring buyers another affordable EV option.

Bolt gets new styling to make it fresher than ever

Reworked styling promises to make the bolt sharper than ever.

A key part of this revival is new styling with the front end getting a new split-headlight design and a reworked front grille panel. A tweaked front bumper is also part of the design too and it’s obvious GM is trying to give the Bolt a more assertive personality. Bolt testers that we have seen cruising around our side of Metro Detroit seem to point to the EV getting more of a refresh versus an outright revamp.

A NACs port will make its way to the Bolt for the first time ever.

In addition to the reworked front end, the 2027 Bolt will get a tweaked rear end but we get to wait for more images to emerge to get a better grasp of what GM designers are up to in that regard. The 2027 Bolt will also switch to the Nort American Charging Standard which means a new NACS port will be included to allow the Chevy to charge at Tesla Supercharger stations.

Bolt will embrace Ultium

The revamped Bolt will most likely get Ultium technology to help it be a true gateway model for Chevrolet.

Chevrolet chose to not reveal any images of the interior this time and also didn’t release any performance figures nor did it talk about the kind of platform the Bolt will have. However, look for the 2027 model to no longer be an outlier in the latter category with the Bolt most likely getting the latest version of GM’s Ultium system. This would not only help simplify production for GM and eliminate the need to have a completly separate EV system, but it will also allow the Bolt to be a true gateway for Ultium especially for entry-level buyers.

When will we find out more about it?

Chevrolet says that more details will come in the fall with the Bolt most likely retaining the affordable pricing ladder that has always been a strong selling point for the model.

It remains to be seen if the standard Bolt hatchback will come back but with the bulk of consumers still favoring CUVs and other utiltiy vehicles, chances are good that the EUV might be the only Bolt model that will be returning for the new model year. It would allow GM to make higher profits while also appealing to a wider pool of buyers right out of the box too.
