Cadillac is making its debut in Formula 1 racing this season with the luxury brand joining Ford in a segment of the racing world that has become a heated battleground in recent years. Cadillac is committed to this and it has unveiled a special livery that will make its official appearance during shakedown week in Barcelona, Spain.

Stealthy camoflauge

The special livery Cadillac is using is meant to be stylish camo to help hide certain aspects of the car as it undergoes its next few phases of development. This includes a largely monochrome look that features a geometric pattern in both gloss and matte paint with a large Cadillac crest at the rear hiding the aero work.

While this may seem like overkill, this is actually very common in F1 racing with many teams running race cars in similar liveries to not only fine tune various aspects of the vehicle but to also hide it from prying eyes with the latter being a lingering presence in the sport for much of its illustrious history. President of General Motors Mark Reuss said: “Our new testing livery celebrates Detroit’s design heritage and the power of the global Cadillac Formula 1 team, while keeping our design secrets under wraps.”

Paying tribute

When the livery is not hiding the car’s essentials from rivals, its also paying tribute to its core pillars, with the nose piece featuring the signatures of the teams founders both in the United States and the United Kingdom.

“The Barcelona test is just the beginning – we can’t wait to share our official race livery with fans around the world next month.” CEO Dan Towriss added: “The Cadillac Formula 1 Team is committed to innovation on and off the track. TWG combined with General Motors allows us to rethink the norm and introduce the team in bold new ways.”

Look for Cadillac’s F1 racer to undergo further tests and while the all-team shakedown at Barcelona will be a key milestone for the team in thenear future, look for other tracks to also play a role in the testing efforts including Silverstone Raceway.
